The Public Outreach Program aims to promote Palestinian contemporary culture and life through creative encounters that target primarily the younger generation of artists and performers. It is a platform to showcase young talent in music, art, literature and cinema, as well as presenting a rich program of talks and performances about the city and its history, interpolated by an assortment of culinary activities involving local chefs and non-professional members of the community. Artists, writers, historians, musicians and performers are invited to give public performances including talks, discussions, readings, shows and film screenings with the aim to bring together community members and creative individuals in a shared space for experimentation, entertainment and free expression.

Liana Saleh

“A Ball and a Coloring Box” is a 21min film by Liana Saleh that depicts the Palestinian children’s search for something: a color for life, an evening sky, and a green field. When one them decides to rebel against his nightmares, and to transform his fantasy into reality; reality in turn rebels against him and steals him away from his own dreams. Born in Ramallah in 1987, Liana started her art activities as a stage actress in St.Joseph’s Theater school and at Ashtar Theater. In 2003, Liana had the unique opportunity to participate in the al-ma’mal art grant competition, and despite the fact that she was the youngest among the applicants; liana exhibited a serious commitment and desire to actualize her creative proposal/ambition. The award she received helped to finance her first short feature film (a ball and a coloring box) which was completed in 2004 after much strong-willed effort. It is with the assistance of Al Ma’mal that Liana was able to pursue a new life path never before imagined. Her film was screened at the Ramallah international film festival, as well as in New York and Qattar, to name a few. Currently, Liana continues to develop her skills in film-making, hoping to find her way towards a bright and positive future as a filmmaker while living in Ramallah.
