The Public Outreach Program aims to promote Palestinian contemporary culture and life through creative encounters that target primarily the younger generation of artists and performers. It is a platform to showcase young talent in music, art, literature and cinema, as well as presenting a rich program of talks and performances about the city and its history, interpolated by an assortment of culinary activities involving local chefs and non-professional members of the community. Artists, writers, historians, musicians and performers are invited to give public performances including talks, discussions, readings, shows and film screenings with the aim to bring together community members and creative individuals in a shared space for experimentation, entertainment and free expression.

Picasso in Palestine: Documentation Exhibition

Khaled Hourani

June 25, 2011

Picasso in Palestine was a special exhibition at the International Academy of Art Palestine (IAAP), conceived by Khaled Hourani. The exhibition brought an original painting by Pablo Picasso to Ramallah to be on show. The work, Buste de Femme, was produced in 1943 and is one of the most important works from the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Buste de Femme was showcased in a specially constructed room inside the IAAP. On June 25-26 the IAAP hosted Picasso Talks, a special program for feedback regarding the artistic, political, and social ramifications surrounding the exhibition, and director Rashid Masharawi created a documentary of the process, which was distributed in 2012.

Concurrent with the exhibition at IAAP, Al Ma'mal hosted an exhibition featuring documentation, correspondence, and materials relating to the project.
