The Artist-in-Residence Program provides local and visiting artists, curators, and researchers with accomodation and studio facilities at the Tile Factory, providing a unique space for the creation, development and exchange of creative ideas and projects. The program serves most of all as a meeting place for artists: facilitating creative encounters, discussions and the exchange of experiences, and then opening these up to the public, acting as a conduit to the outside world.

In a sense, the residency acts as an incubator for the creation and exchange of ideas, experiences and representations. In the course of residency, our public - both within the region and further afield - are encouraged to engage with activities planned to help create awareness of one's own cultural difference and uniqueness. Each artist is given the opportunity to propose and focus on a particular project while in residence, which may be influenced or inspired by the reality of daily life in the city, the country and the region. Opportunities to work with local artists and the local community during the residencies will be plentiful and strongly encouraged.

Alban Biaussat

Alban realized his series “the Green(er) Side of the Line” with the support of the Al Mammal Foundation during his time spent in Jerusalem in 2005-2006. Having studied political science and worked in Jerusalem as a political analyst of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Biaussat approaches the photographic medium to express political as well as personal concerns. Focusing on the Green Line border for his project, Biaussat traveled along the demarcation border carrying a 12-meter long green ribbon in order to make the green line visually appear. A central political reference, The Green(er) Side of the Line photography project aims to raise awareness and understanding of border issues, generating critical thinking and a “healthy feeling of doubt” to promote potential alternative solutions.


Biaussat recieved his Masters Degree indocumentary photography, international relations and business studies.Alban is a freelance photographer who combines his artistic activities with a professional interest for international affairs. He has been working in various parts of the world, and notably spent 5 years in Jerusalem. He is interested in the more creative side of documentary photography to deal with complex socio-political issues and their perception. Now based in Paris, Alban juggles with different hats. Among his most recent artwork, “the Wall of Chicon-Witloof” looks at the communitarian dispute around the language border in Belgium. He is a member of Picturetank, a Paris-based cooperative photo agency and also runs Collateral Creations, an innovative audio-visual production platform, which he founded in Paris to encourage the marriage of artists and experts in order to produce creative visual and narrative content for research and/or communication purpose.
