The Artist-in-Residence Program provides local and visiting artists, curators, and researchers with accomodation and studio facilities at the Tile Factory, providing a unique space for the creation, development and exchange of creative ideas and projects. The program serves most of all as a meeting place for artists: facilitating creative encounters, discussions and the exchange of experiences, and then opening these up to the public, acting as a conduit to the outside world.

In a sense, the residency acts as an incubator for the creation and exchange of ideas, experiences and representations. In the course of residency, our public - both within the region and further afield - are encouraged to engage with activities planned to help create awareness of one's own cultural difference and uniqueness. Each artist is given the opportunity to propose and focus on a particular project while in residence, which may be influenced or inspired by the reality of daily life in the city, the country and the region. Opportunities to work with local artists and the local community during the residencies will be plentiful and strongly encouraged.

Los Torreznos

Identity and The Culture, two performances for the 2011 Jerusalem Show: On/Off Language, are based on voice, language and movement. We work with very simple concepts, with any kind of special element, with humour, with personal energy. We try to build a special clime where these simple concepts can be developped to a deeper meaning. Questions about communication, emigrants, people out of place, were part of our basis in the building of this work.

Since our personal and real difficulty to speak other languages than ours, we were interested by the experiment of the approach of an audience in other language. A reality, where people are out of place, where people have no place.

Los Torreznos was created in 2000. Its members, Jaime Vallaure and Rafael Lamata, have been working together for over 20 years in different creative projects, both on their own, and other projects dedicated to the generation of art spaces and collectives. They use humour and talk about things everybody knows, about what is the human being cotidianity, our day to day. Their work is developped through many shapes, Performance or Action Art, Multimedia (video, sound projects) and also Workshops and Conferences. The intention of their work turns towards research and expressive experimentation through simple forms, such as gesture, language or presence. Forms that are (or at least should be) reachable by everybody and not only those who are specialized in Contemporary Arts languages.
